Not many people realise that you need to have your Aga / Rayburn swept both on gas or oil, as well as your real effect gas fire. These can all get blocked up with sooty despots, birds nests or even spiders webs and cause odourless CO leaks into the room. Very dangerous. Oil fired ranges and central heating systems can leave an awful lot of soot, especially when they are not quite running as they should. Remember, once the flue way is closing down the gases cannot escape as intended, they then have to go somewhere. They will find there way out of where the appliance draws its air from or any other gaps or leaks, out into the room.
Most of the time when Aga send an engineer to service your range, they do not sweep the appliances flue. In our opinion this is madness, from a safety aspect, the flue is THE most important part of that appliance. Even from an efficiency point of view it is hugely important. They do however carry out a smoke draw test telling them that the flue is at least drawing but even so it should be cleaned. Every time we sweep an oil fuelled aga and ray burn they have an amazing amount of soot in them.
Best way to do it is book us in on the same day or the day before your service, that way it can all be done at once rather than turning the aga off twice. Real effect fires we can sweep when ever.
